Retirement Announcement Letter

If you have been working for a company for a long time, you might have been thinking about your own retirement. You must have been excited to do all the things that you never done before and rest without worrying in your own retirement house. Before you plan your life after you leave the office, you must send a retirement announcement to your boss and fellow employees.

A retirement letter, or a goodbye letter for work, is a standard letter for those who are seeking for a retirement. You might have announced earlier to your fellow workers and boss that you want to leave, but making this letter is a form of formality and work etiquette so you must follow it.

If you are writing a retirement letter, you must clearly state your reasons on why you want to retire. You must also say thank you to your fellow workers and boss and to welcome the new person who will be in charge of your previous work. In the end, you can state your telephone number and home address should your co workers and boss want to still keep in touch with you. You can also add your own personal experience, but it is up to you if you feel you are close to them or not.

Here is a following example of a retirement letter of a teacher:

Dear Mr. Principal, Teachers, Parents and my beloved Students,

This is to inform you that I will be retiring effectively on December 11, 2010. I have reached a time with my life when I realized I have fulfilled my goals as a dedicated teacher for Memphis High for 20 years. I believe being a teacher for that long is enough for me already. I am glad that I worked with my fellow colleges who also became my friends, and mentored good students who have successful careers today.

Thank you for the happy memories that you gave to me. I will miss the laughter with the students, the hectic workload of checking of assignments, exams and projects, and the times I shared with my friends here. Ms. Charlotte Hall will take over my subjects, so I would be very glad if you warmly accepted her as you did to me 20 years ago.

Should you want to have a nice chat and get together, you can call me in this number 304-331-6387 or visit me at home in 2546 Froe St., Wheeling, WV 26003. It would also be nice if I could visit the school again from time to time.

Again, thank you and best wishes for the school.

Announcement Letter of Graduation of Son or Daughter

The graduation of a son or daughter is the most anticipated day of the parents. It will not only be a proof that the child will face the real world and find a job, but to add relief to the parent’s everyday spending. A better way to give your child a good pat on the back is to make a post graduation party for him. Better send a graduation announcement letter to your other relatives and your child’s friends.

A graduation announcement letter is an invitation to a post graduation party for your child. You can inform your immediate family, friends or other classmates of your child.

If you are sending a graduation announcement letter, it is best to inform the relatives and friends two weeks in advance. The timeframe would make the guests prepare and allot time for the party. The letter could be engraved with glossy words on hard stationery and can be placed inside an envelope or fold into three ways and the name of the guest at the front.

When you are writing, make sure that it is straight forward to avoid confusion. You can also attach a map if the venue is farther than the school. Add your child’s achievements to make it more special like magna cum laude, valedictorian, etc. Also put a R.S V.P. note to make sure that the guest has an option not to attend (which works for his not-so-close classmates). A themed letter and party is much more suited to the kids especially if it takes until morning. The usually themes nowadays are dance parties, movie themed parties, TV show themed parties, and techno parties.

Employee or Relative Death Announcement Letter

No one wants to hear the news that his family member or friend had passed away. It is also difficult to the boss and the company management to handle a deceased employee or a mourning employee over the death of his loved one. That is why death announcements are posted on their billboards; to let other employees and employers have sympathy for the grieving family.

A death announcement of a company is a sensitive company announcement. They request other officemates to understand the grieving family and have some time to visit them. Sometimes, donations are requested to help the family but it is not compulsory.

The tone of a death announcement letter has to be solemn yet positive. It has to state full details like the name of the decreased, the relation to the employer, the time and date of departure, the time and date of the memorial service, and if donations are needed or not. You can also put encouraging words to help the employer cope with the present situation and encouraging others to support him.

If the deceased is an employer, the harder it is for the employees. The statement has to be short and understandable with the picture of the employer attached. You can also put the address of the memorial service and the achievements of the employee in the company like the Top Employee Award. There is no need to write redundant sentences in these letters.

Here is a sample announcement letter of death of an employee’s parent.

Family Member Death Announcement Letter

Losing someone in the family is hard, especially if you know that he/she is about to die. It is even sadder if you need to tell relatives who live far away about the news. A less painful way to do this is by sending them a death announcement letter.

A death announcement letter is a personal letter telling the sad news about a family member who passed away. It is easily written since you don’t have to pick up the phone and bring yourself to tears every time you say it. Usually, long distance relatives are informed in this way.

Writing a death announcement letter of a family member should be personal, unlike in an obituary. You need to give the basic information like when your family member died, what is the cause of his death, and where and when will the funeral services be held to let the recipient know.

You may also ask him to rush and go to the mortuary or send funeral donations if he cannot come. The tone of the letter must be entirely solemn; otherwise your relative will be angry at you for being impassive.

Here is a sample of a personal death announcement letter.

Announcement Letter of Death in Family for Obituary

Losing someone in your family is painful. It hurts and you must deal with it for months, or even years. The last thing that you can do for that family member is to write an obituary for him.

An obituary is a public announcement about a death of a person. It is a perfect chance to tell to the world the achievements of that person during his life time. It is a good announcement to make that will reach other family members and friends of the deceased. To pay homage and an invitation to come to the funeral and memorial ceremony.

Some newspapers publish short obituaries for free. For longer obituaries, a fee is may be charged by the newspapers because of additional formatting, number of characters, and the space that it fills in the obituary page. If you want to publish the obituary worldwide and free, you can search for obituary websites and post your obituary there.

When writing an obituary, you must include a picture of the deceased, his full name, age when he died, the date and time of his departure, the immediate survivors like children, spouse or grandchildren and sometimes that cause of his death. Also include where, when and what time the funeral and memorial service will take place. If you are writing paid obituaries then you must include the background of the deceased such as his previous work, organizations he joined and his achievements.

Announcement Letter of Birth or Adoption of a Baby

Having a baby is truly a wonderful gift, whether he/she is of your own blood or not. You as a parent must be prepared for the sleepless nights, but it is all worth it when you see your baby smile. Before the parents become too busy attending to their baby, it is great to celebrate his/her arrival. Have plans for your baby arrival party and send a baby announcement letter to your relatives and friends.

A baby announcement letter is a simple invitation to celebrate and see the baby for the first time. It is also a great way to say thank you to your friends who supported you especially for the ones who decided for an adoption. You can invite your closest friends and relatives to see your marvelous joy.

Writing a baby announcement letter is not that hard. You must keep the letter straight to the point and simple. State clearly the date and time of the party as well as the location if it is being held on a place other than your home. Include the baby’s name, length and width, date of birth and date of arrival if adopted, or baby picture if there’s any.

You can also put the names of the grandparents, siblings, and biological mother’s name if applicable. You can also put your personal message and baby passages, but don’t overdo it. Better send the letters two weeks before the party date. Never send these if the mother’s still pregnant or you might need to reschedule the party if it is born too early or too soon.

Engagement Invitation Letter

An engagement is cause for a celebration. The magic happens when two people finally decide to say their vows in the eyes of God and others. What better way to celebrate an engagement than by having an engagement party? Send an engagement invitation to your family and friends to make it special.

An engagement invitation is a short letter in which you people to come to your engagement celebration. It is also used to inform your close friends that you are engaged and soon to be married.

If you are planning to send an engagement invitation, it is best to send these at least a month before the occasion to avoid hassles and delays for you and the guests. Putting a photo of the couple together will make the invitation more personal. With the use of the technology today, you can easily edit your invitation to make it colorful and attractive.

Writing an engagement invitation is less formal than a wedding invitation, so it is best to keep the message short and simple, use a funny theme if you want or use short personalized love quotes on the side to make it more special. Attach a map so others will know where to go.

Also use R.S.V.P. note and contact information underneath to let your guest inform you if they are not coming to the event.

Layoff Announcement & Employee Termination Letter

Lay-off or temporary suspension or permanent termination of employment of an employee or group of employees is dreaded. No person in his right mind would want to be laid-off. Employment nowadays is a must.

People need jobs to have a decent wage. If an employee is a family man, it would really be difficult for him to lose his job. He would be thinking where he could get food to serve for his children.

That is why it is important for management to announce the lay-off in a nice way so as not to hurt the feelings of their employees.

The following is an example of a letter on how to announce a lay-off to your employees.

Dear Employee,

Our company is now on the verge of closing. It is hard for us to generate income at this point because the demand for our product has slowed. Our production expenses continue to increase while our sales fail to generate. Many manufacturing business like ours have decided to close their establishments.

This global crisis has affected our revenue, yet our expenses continue to rise up. The officers of our company conducted a meeting to come up with a solution to this problem.

Our only option for now is either to close the business or to lay-off at least 20% of our employees. We have decided to do the difficult choice of having to lay-off some of our employees. Please understand that we do not have any other choice at this time.

It is a company policy and it is also in accordance with our company by-laws that those hired last will be the first affected. We are asking for your understanding. We know the pain of losing a job. You have been loyal to the company all these time.

Those who will be separated will receive all their benefits in full. The company will also provide separation pay to help. We assure you that if things will get better for our company, we will give notice our laid-off employees for them to come back and work here again.

Thank you for your attention and understanding.

Why not give a class reunion announcement letter to your well known former classmates to help you out.

A class reunion announcement letter is a great formal way to invite your batch mates to your coming reunion party. It is also a great way to collect funds and gather the latest information about other class mates. Planning the event is much easier if there is available help around.

Change of Address Announcement Letter

In some point in our lives, we move to another place. There are different factors affecting our address change, whether you are moving with your spouse together, your company designated you to a different location, or just for having a new location to live in. You must inform others about your moving by sending them a change of address letter.

A change of address letter is a written statement about your moving. It is essential to send these notices to your bosses, customers or your landlady. You can also send this to your immediate friends or relatives so that you can still keep on touch with them.

You must put your change of address letter in a clean sheet of paper or send them through email. There are some post offices who offer speed mailing, so use it if you need to send it quickly. It might take some time to make personal letters at once, so it is best to make your letters in general.

Writing a change of address letter has to be very short, simple and clear. It must also be very informative to avoid further questions in the future. If you are sending this to your boss or company, it has to be formal. For sending it with your friends, you can make it informal and make it an invitational home warming letter to make it more memorable.

Also attach a map or picture of your house so that others could go to your house easily. You must also include your phone, email address or name if it is also changed. You can send it three weeks in advance or on the exact date of your departure.
